There has been a rise in cases of kidney donations to hospitals.
Five family members in Can Tho City in the Mekong delta received each VND 120 million (US$5,645) for their kidneys, said police in Co Do District on April 8.
Many citizens in poverty in Thanh Phu Commune in Co Do District have agreed to sell their kidneys, said police. They are children of Ngo Van Y including Ngo Hoang Son, 43, Ngo Phu Em, 31, Ngo Thanh Hoai, Ngo Phu Anh, 39 and Ngo Ngoc Bich, 41, and two other residents Ho Van Tranh, 45, and Le Van Gion, 36.
They sold their kidneys at the People’s Hospital 115 in 2012. Each received VND 120 million (US$5,645).
