Azerbaijan President Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev
HA NOI (VNS) — Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Ha Noi yesterday for a three-day State visit in Viet Nam at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang.
Aliyev has been Azerbaijan’s president from October 2003.
During this visit, he is accompanied by a group of Azerbaijan’s high-ranking officials including ministers of foreign affairs,economy and industry, taxes, education, culture and tourism.
Viet Nam and Azerbaijan had set up diplomatic ties from 1992. An embassy of Azerbaijan was opened in Viet Nam last year.
Trade turnover between the two countries reached US$30 million in 2012 and increased to $325 million in 2013 due to the sudden increase of Azerbaijan’s import of crude oil from Viet Nam.
The two countries have signed an agreement on the exemption of visa for diplomatic and official passports and a cooperation protocol between the two foreign ministries. — VNS
