HA NOI (VNS) — Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam called on the Health Ministry and other relevant agencies yesterday to do all they could to prevent disease outbreaks this summer.
In a meeting with the Health Ministry, the deputy prime minister noted that even though the measles outbreak had slowed down, fatalities were still being recorded.
Dengue fever and hand-foot-mouth disease were also on the verge of becoming outbreaks, Dam noted.
More than 3,000 cases of measles have been recorded since the beginning of the year, killing 125 and affecting 61 out of 63 localities nationwide.
More than 17,400 cases of hand-foot-mouth disease were recorded so far this year, killing two. At least four have died from dengue this year, while more than 7,930 were affected.
Deputy PM Dam said prevention and treatment must be stepped up, especially during the summer.
He asked the Ministry to follow the Prime Minister’s instructions on preventing dengue fever and hand-foot-mouth outbreaks strictly, stressing the need to prevent cross infection and overcrowding at central hospitals and to provide timely treatment.
In addition, he told the Health Ministry to ensure that localities had enough funding and vaccinations to deal with the situation and raise awareness in local communities. — VNS
