Police say Than Van Thao , 26, was drunk-driving up National Road 20 toward the central highland city of Dalat when a group of traffic cops stopped him.

Thao allegedly snatched a walkie-talkie, a military rank insignia and name cards from the police as he unleashed a barrage of insults against them.

After being placed into custody, Thao managed to destroy the interior of their vehicle as they drove him to a nearby station.

Police claim the drunk prisoner smashed the windshield and yanked the steering wheel about as they drove.

He was not in full possession of his faculties until the following morning.

Police will keep Thao in custody for two months before filing charges against him.
