Ho Chi Minh City police arrested four suspects on May 9, including three Taiwanese, for purchasing forged identity papers and depositing money earned through fraud into illegal ATM accounts.
Liu Minh Chieh, Chung Minh Shih, Chen Yen Hao (all Taiwanese) and a 22-year old Vietnamese woman whom police say is their accomplice, allegedly belong to a gang of con artists who call private citizens and convince them to send them money by impersonating the authorities.
The victims comply with the criminals’ demands and deposit funds into bank accounts opened under fake names.
Numerous Vietnamese nationals were enlisted to create fake identity papers and bank accounts for the ring.
The three latests suspects mark a full dozen Taiwanese whom police have rounded up since the beginning of this year.
