On June 18, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Education and Training held a ceremony to honour students winning medals at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad and the 13th International Olympiad of the Russian language for schoolchildren.
At the 2014 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad, all six Vietnamese students won silvers. Of the medallists, four are from the University of Natural Science’s High School for Gifted Students under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. They are Do Xuan Viet and Ngo Hoang Anh Phuc, both 12th graders, and Do Ngoc Khanh and Nguyen Viet Dung, 11th graders. Others are Nguyen Phan Quang Minh, 12th grader at the Nguyen Trai High School in northern Hai Duong Province, and Tran Trong Dat, 12th grader at the Hanoi Amsterdam High School. The online competition was hosted by Kazakhstan, drawing students from 29 countries, competing at contest sites within their own countries.
At the 13th International Olympiad of the Russian language for schoolchildren, all five members of the Vietnam team bagged medals, including three gold medals and two silver medals. The gold medal winners were Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet from Le Hong Phong gifted high school in the Red river delta province of Nam Dinh, Nghiem Ba Tri from Hanoi Amsterdam High School and Do Anh Tung from Nguyen Hue gifted high school in Hanoi. Silver medals went to Nguyen Phuong Trang from Phan Boi Chau high school in the central province of Nghe An and Duong Hong Ngoc from Nguyen Hue gifted high school in Hanoi. The six-day contest in Moscow drew the participation of more than 200 students from 29 countries.
The award for each gold medal winner is VND15 million, and the silver medal is VND10 million.
Achievements by the two delegations are considered to be a good sign for other national delegations of maths, physics, biology and chemistry, leaving Vietnam for international contests in July./.
