The Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) has supported VND20 billion (US$939,600) for building 500 houses for poor farmers in new rural districts of Can Gio, Nha Be, Binh Chanh and Cu Chi in Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee and Nguyen Van Ranh, head of the Party Committee’s mass mobilization department and representatives of the Farmer Association attended at the hand-over ceremony of 64 houses in disadvantaged communes in Can Gio District on June 20.
Farmers in communes Binh Khanh, Tam Thon Hiep, Ly Nhon, Long Hoa, Thanh An, Can Thạnh of Can Gio District each receiced VND40 million (US$1,879) to build or repair their dilapidated houses. Agribank promised to support over VND6.8 billion ( US$319,473) to build 171 charity houses in Can Gio District. Before, thanks to the bank’s support, 73 charity houses had been handed over to poor farmers in Commune An Thoi Dong.
Ms Ha directed local authorities to help disadvantaged households. Besides, local authority should raise awareness of living environment and encourage farmers to protect environment around them and cooperate with others to improve their lives.
