In order to mitigate the ramifications of China’s illegal action, the city is exerting the utmost efforts to ensure political stability, security and environment for investment and production, according to Mr. Nghi.

Vietnam is determined to protect its sovereignty by peaceful means in line with international laws and to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development, Mr. Nghi affirmed.

Speaking with Mr. Nghi, Ms Nguyen Phuong Lan, head of the personnel department of YANTIN electronics company, said that the company ran normally as a result of the great assistance provided by Hanoi authorities. “Chinese and their families still stayed in Vietnam to work”, she added.

Pai Chih Chiang, head of the board of directors of the Young Fast Company Limited, a Taiwanese (China) invested company, said that the company is developing so well that it has decided to invest an additional USD50 million to expand production. This expansion will increase the number of workers from 2,000 to 3,000. “We are not worried as we receive assistance from the city authority”, he said.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chinh, head of the Hanoi Industrial and Export Processing Zone Authority (HIZA), there are currently 35 enterprises registered by Chinese investors. During the initial days after developments in industrial zones in Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ha Tinh provinces, some were so worried that they returned home. However, after explanation and encouragement by the authorities, they have returned to Vietnam to resume production.

According to Major General Nguyen Duc Chung, director of the Hanoi Police, city police forces have protected foreign-invested enterprises and workers well at industrial zones.

“All difficulties and proposals by enterprises will be tackled by the city”, said Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee. “Hanoi is still attracting foreign investment in industrial zones”. /.”
