Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Vietnam People’s Army , Lieut. Gen. Vo Van Tuan asked for facilitating visits by Vietnamese and Japanese armies while receiving a Japanese army official in Hanoi on June 23.
This should be started soon as bilateral defence cooperation remains modest, especially in science-technology, and defence industry, he told Maj. Gen. Naohisa Fukase, visiting Vice President of the Japanese National Institute for Defence Studies.
Tuan added that he is pleased with the close bond of the Vietnam – Japan friendship, especially since both sides elevated their ties to a new level of extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia in March.
Naohisa Fukase said his delegation would like to share experience with Vietnam in personnel training.
Expressing his concern over China’s illegal placement of its oil rig Haiyang Shiyou – 981 in Vietnam’s waters, he expressed his hope that both countries will denounce such wrongful acts by diplomatic means in line with international law.-VNA
