(VOV) – Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Truong Manh Son has concluded a visit to the town of Zelezna Ruda where he made a fact-finding tour and discussed cooperative and investment opportunities with local council leaders.

Mayor of Zelezna Ruda, the Czech Republic, Michal Snegergr, extended the invitation to visit the small and remote town of the Czech Republic, famous worldwide as a winter sports centre and tourism destination.

The town is often referred to by Vietnamese as the “Da Lat” of the Czech Republic.

This is a good signal as it demonstrates that Zelezna Ruda leaders attach great importance to OVs resident business community and that partnering with Vietnamese businesses can play an important role in developing the town and the region’s economy, said Ambassador Manh.

The town neighbours Bavaria, Germany and almost all pubs and restaurants naturally focus on German tourists and holiday goers. They are also the main customers of the Vietnamese shops and market areas.

The golden era of Zelezna Ruda and the OVs business community was 15 years ago during which many OVs became “millionaires“.

However, over the past 7 years, the number of German people crossing via the Zelezna Ruda border gate has tapered off precipitating a decrease in business. As a result many OVs businesses have gradually drifted away from the area.

Nguyen Quang Trung, President of the Vietnamese People Association in Zelezna Ruda, said that during the golden era, around 1,000 Vietnamese people lived in the town and surrounding area but now only about 150 remain.

Mayor Michal Snegergr said the OV community plays a significant role in the local economic development, and hoped that further meetings can be productive to find ways to improve cooperation with Vietnam at all levels for the mutual benefit of both countries.

The mayor said Vietnamese businesspeople not only bring their relatives, friends and partners to play sports or spend holiday in Zelezna Ruda, but also invest in sports and tourism projects.

He promised to provide incentives for Vietnamese businesses to invest in the town and surrounding region.
