The move aims to create more favorable conditions for Russian tourists to stay longer and spend more, contributing to improving the efficiency of tourism activities. According to a survey by the General Statistics Office and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the average spending of a Russian tourist in Vietnam is about USD2,500, much higher than the average of USD1,143. In the first half of this year, the Russian tourist market continued to see growth with nearly 194,000 arrivals, a year-on-year rise of 26%. The tendency will be retained with rapid growth in the future, with the country expected to welcome 1 million Russian tourist arrivals in 2017. Vietnam has recently waived 15-day visas for citizens from seven other countries, namely Japan, the Republic of Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Russia. The country is also applying the 30-day visa exemption for citizens from nine of the 10 ASEAN member nations./. |
