The annual awards are given to students involved in the “We are filmmakers” project sponsored by the Vietnam Cinematography Association’s Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD). 3 documentaries and 3 feature films received awards.

The winning documentary “A normal day” by Nguyen Duy Linh, the documentary “Return time” by Pham Le Dung was voted by a panel of judges and a nationwide audience. The best feature films were “Subtle color” by Nguyen Trung Kien, and “Orange seeds and ageless yellow cat” by Nguyen Le Hoang Viet. Bui Thac Chuyen is the Deputy Head of TPD: “This year, most of the documentaries were first films by students so there are both strengths and weakness. The most important thing is that the students take an interest in making films and never forget the experience they gain in their lives. The feature films were more professional. Some students told stories in a very personal way instead of using conventional story-telling techniques.

The 2014 Golden Lotus Bud Awards drew more than 100 documentaries and feature films.
