A series of activities welcoming the participation of foreigners have started recently in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.
The “Live in Tet Trung Thu” (Live in the Mid-Autumn Festival) event which lasts from August 26 to September 9 aims at offering underprivileged children in Le Minh Xuan Commune in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Chanh District an unforgettable Mid-Autumn fest.
On the starting day, it welcomed about 20 foreigners who donated to children gifts including notebooks, pens, cakes, and money.
“Live in Tet Trung Thu” boasts a lantern-making session on Tuesday and Thursday each week from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at 45 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, District 1 and 90 Le Van Thiem Street, District 7 starting from August 26.
All of the donations and lanterns made by foreign participants will be given to children in Le Minh Xuan Commune during the final activity which will be held from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm on September 6 at Huong Son Pagoda in the commune’s Hamlet 2.
Besides small games, the final activity will feature a play entitled “Cay Da va Chu Cuoi” (The Buffalo Boy and The Banyan Tree) performed in Vietnamese by foreigners.
“Cay Da va Chu Cuoi” is a Vietnamese romantic legend that tells the story of a boy who flies to the immense sky to catch his magic tree and spends the rest of his life there.
The Mid-Autumn Festival will be celebrated in Vietnam on September 8. As a tradition, children carry brightly lit lanterns around their neighborhood during the celebration.
