PANO – Photographer Nguyen A is exhibiting his 200 photos of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos of Vietnam at Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House.
Each photo tells a story of the daily life of fishermen and troops as well as their combats to safeguard the airspace and the waters of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
Notably, the showcased consist of many close-up images of Vietnam Coast Guard and Fisheries Surveillance ships on duty in the Hoang Sa waters during the time when China was illegally sitting its oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. These photos also depict the resilience of the coast guard and fisheries surveillance forces to defend the national waters despite danger to their own lives.
According to the photographer, 200 photos on display in this week-long exhibition were taken in his 5 visits to Hoang Sa and Truong Sa since 2010.
At the opening ceremony on August 10th, viewers exchanged with naval troops, fisheries surveillance personnel and fishermen who used to go fishing in traditional fishing grounds of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
On the occasion, photographer Nguyen A also made debut his pictorial book named “Hoang Sa, Truong Sa, Vietnam’s sea and islands” with over 1,000 photos of the two archipelagos of Vietnam.
