PM signs off on 5-year development plan draft

The Primer Minister has approved drafting of the 2016-20 development plan.


Its main goal will be to stabilise the economy, control inflation, and promote growth to ensure the country industrialises.


The plan will target average annual economic growth of 6.5 – 7 per cent and a reduction in poverty by 1.5 percentage points every year.

Viet Nam debt rises by $3b in 4 months


A ‘global debt clock’ in Britain’s Economist magazine said on Wednesday that Viet Nam’s public debts top $83 billion, accounting for 47.5 per cent of GDP.



Since the end of March public debts have risen by $3 billion.


The country’s nearly 91 million people each has a debt of $918, $30 more than in March.


But according to the clock Viet Nam’s public debt remains within safe levels.

Nation spends $7b on climate defences


The National Assembly’s Science, Technology and Environment Committee announced that in 2009-13 an amount of VND140 trillion (around $7 billion) was spent to deal with climate change in the Mekong River delta.


It is predicted that within the next 100 years, because of climate change and rising seas, 19 – 38 per cent of the delta will be submerged, with half of Ben Tre Province (1,131 square km) going under water.

Poor get $27.7m subsidy for power use


The Ministry of Finance said it has provided subsidies to the tune of VND584 billion (US$27.7 million) this year to poor households for electricity use.


Ten out of 63 cities and provinces – Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Dong Nai, Can Tho and Ba Ria – Vung Tau – accounted for 50 per cent of the subsidy amount.
