The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Hai Duong Municipal People’s Committee on August 20 morning co-organized the 4th Hai Duong Provincial Ca Tru (a kind of Ceremonial Singing) Exchange in 2014.

In attendance were 75 artists, young songstresses, and accompanists of five ca tru clubs in Hai Duong province, namely Tu Ky, Nam Sach, Cam Giang, Hai Duong city, and the Provincial Cultural Center, and Binh Minh Ca Tru Club from Khoai Chau district (Hung Yen).

The clubs brought 14 turns to the performance including several styles of hat mua dang huong cua dinh (imperial singing, dancing, and offering incense at communal court), hat tho – loi co (singing poems with ancient lyrics), hat mieu (singing at shrines), hat noi (singing while speaking), hat gui thu (sending a letter in the form of singing), etc.

The provincial ca tru exchange aims to contribute to performing the “National action program to protect and bring into full play ca tru singing heritage” that Vietnam has committed itself to implement with the UNESCO and concurrently create an opportunity for ca tru singing clubs to meet and exchange experiences in organization, maintenance, and development.

This is also an action to celebrate the 210th anniversary of Thanh Dong’s foundation and the 60th anniversary of Hai Duong city’s liberation.
