Along with rapid development in Laos, trade center projects in the capital of Vientiane have been increasing every year. Seeing an opportunity, Vietnamese businesses have been very active in helping Laos build trade centers. Acting Chairman of the General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Laos, Nguyen Duy Trung, was responsible for construction of the ASEAN mall including an outstanding 8 hectare complex of offices and shops, Many large and branded companies have rented up to 60% of the available space. Additionally, Nong Chan, offering at least 5 hectares of space will be developed into an economic and commercial center in the next few years. It will includes a shopping center, offices, apartments, conference rooms, restaurants and area for pedestrians only. The project investment is estimated to be about USD90 million with official inauguration expected in October 2014. The ASEAN trade centre near Wattay airport is being completed with some urgency and is expected to be operational by 2016. The That Luang Lake Economic Zone with an area of 365 hectares is a huge complex of restaurants, hotels and amusement parks and is hoped to be complete by October 2016. This project will help Laos’s economic integration into the ASEAN community in 2015 and more substantially into the world economy./. |
