A 20-year-old man was sentenced Friday to five years in jail for kidnapping his cousin in order to coerce his uncle’s wife to have sex with him in March in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
The Xuyen Moc Distric People’s Court sentenced Le Han Van Tam to four years in jail for sexual coercion and one year for illegal detention.
According to the indictment, Tam began an illicit relationship with his uncle’s 26-year-old wife, identified only as H.
Conflicts broke out when H decided to end her extramarital affair and Tam refused.
On March 21, Tam kidnapped H.’s four-year-old daughter by offering to by her some candies.
He took the girl to a nearby forest where he summoned his “aunt.” He demanded she meet him in the forest before he released the child.
H. went to the scene with a team of police officers on March 24, but managed to separate from them to meet Tam.
The pair had sex before Tam agreed to release the child.
Afterward, Tam continued to take H. deeper into the forest where they had sex a second time before releasing her and turning himself in to the police.
The court called Tam’s four year sentence for sexual coercion as lenient because H. was also at fault in the case.
