HA NOI (VNS)- Viet Nam is committed to working with the US to bolster bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, education and training, and science and technology, said PM Nguyen Tan Dung.

He made the statement during a reception for visiting US Senators John McCain and Sheldon Whitehouse last Saturday.

He proposed that the US support Viet Nam in the negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and apply a flexible stance during the negotiation process.

Dung said the human rights situation in Viet Nam had positively improved, stressing that Viet Nam was willing to have a dialogue with the US on this area.

Both McCain and Whitehouse agreed that in order to ensure peace, security, maritime and aviation safety and freedom in the East Sea, all parties concerned, including China, needed to abide by international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, refraining from using or threatening to use force, and settling all disputes through peaceful measures.

The two Senators also stated that the US was keen on further boosting its partnership with Viet Nam in the areas of maritime security, cyber security, environmental protection and water preservation. – VNS
