Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh made the statement while meeting with APRC Chairman Surakiart Sathiratha on Wednesday.

Mr. Surakiart said he shares Viet Nam’s peaceful approach to the East Sea issue.

He affirmed that the APRC would exert itself to make practical contributions to the promotion of reconciliation and peaceful resolution of disputes in Asia in general and in the East Sea in particular, on the basis of international law.

During his visit to Viet Nam, the APRC Chairman also met with Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu.

Mr. Luu said the Legislature advocates cooperation between the APRC and the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in resolving regional and international conflicts through peaceful means with respect to international law.

The Vietnamese legislator expressed his hope that the APRC would support Southeast Asian countries in building peace and reconciling regional disputes towards the formulation of a strong ASEAN political-security community in the future.

The APRC is a non-governmental organization which was launched in Bangkok on September 5, 2012 by a gathering of distinguished former national leaders and ministers, including well-known academics, from around the world who share a keen interest in Asian affairs, and are willing to offer their good offices in the service of peace and reconciliation in Asia./.
