A truck driver and his assistant ran a Danang traffic cop off the road on Friday and then spent hours holed up in the cabin with a knife.
Lt. Col. Bui Hoa said Tran Van Nam, 34, sped up when they signaled for him to stop at around 2:30am.
Hoa said they’d encroaching into oncoming traffic and appeared to be driving on worn tires.
After the truck blew past Hoa’s checkpoint, he decided to give chase on his motorbike.
Further down the road, Nam swerved, forcing Hoa to lose control and fall to the ground, scuffing his face and uniform.
Local criminal police officers and residents joined the chase and managed to stop the truck near the Hai Van Tunnel.
When the police demanded to see their licenses and shipping manifest, the driver’s assistant Pham Van Dinh, 27, drew a knife to keep the cops at bay.
The police reportedly spent nearly four hours persuading the two to give up their weapon and exit the vehicle.
Danang police say their investigation remains underway.
