General Le Trong Tan’s contributions highlighted

PANO – During his revolutionary career, General Le Trong Tan, excellent military man of the Party and one of the outstanding generals in the Ho Chi Minh era, made great contributions to Vietnam’s revolutionary cause.


This was affirmed by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Minister of National Defence, at the scientific seminar, themed “General Le Trong Tan – the righteous military man and the talented strategist of the Vietnamese revolutionary cause”, on September 23rd in Hanoi, to mark the 100th birth anniversary of late General Le Trong Tan, former Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.



According to Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, General Le Trong Tan set a bright example for Vietnamese troops and youths and his theoretical and practical contributions have become valuable spiritual treasures in Vietnamese revolution.

During the seminar, held by the Ministry of National Defence, the participants highlighted the great contributions of General Le Trong Tan to the resistance war against French and American invaders and to the international obligation in Cambodia. They also recalled their memories of the talented, righteous, simple, and thoughtful General.


Born on October 1st, 1914 in Yen Nghia commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi, General Le Trong Tan, whose real name is Le Trong To, joined the army in 1944 and was aapointed to many important positions in the army. As the Chief of the General Staff, the General always excellently fulfilled his tasks and made contributions to the strategic staff work for the development of the army and Vietnam’s military art.


His example has been followed by troops of the General Staff from generation to generation. Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff said that commemorating and admiring General Le Trong Tan’s talents and righteousness, present cadres and troops have been studying hard to raise their political stance and professionalism to successfully fulfil their assigned missions.


For his part, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung hoped that after the seminar, revolutionary veterans, scientists, units and localities inside and outside the army would collect more documents relating to the life and revolutionary career of General Le Trong Tan for researches. He asked organs, army units, academies, schools and press agencies to promote popularizing the contents and results of the seminar, as well as creatively apply General Le Trong Tan’s experiences in building the revolutionary, regular, elite and increasingly modern Vietnam People’s Army.
