To learn more about effectively economic models in this province, we visited a pig raising farm in the Greeco Farm in An Trach Dong Hamlet, Vinh Trach Commune in Bac Lieu City, Bac Lieu Province. The farm is capable of raising about 8,000 pigs with a modern biogas system to generate electricity.

Taking us to visit the raising area which is clean and airy thanks to a cooling and deodorizing system, Do Minh Nha said: “Every farming household raises pigs but the scale is small so it does not bring high economic benefit. If they learn how to invest in technology in the right direction, the pigs will surely bring a higher economic value.”
Besides applying technology to raising pigs, the Greeco Farm also invested in building a system of underground biogas storage with HDPE technology. It has a capacity of 8,000m3 of manure and 4,000m3 of gas. With this system, the farm uses biogas to power electric generators with an expected capacity of 800KWh.
At present, the farm’s two electric generators are run by biogas in turn about 10 hours/day with a capacity of 300KWh, providing enough electricity for 15 members of the farm and many shrimp raising farms in the region. The advantage of this system is that it is generated on the spot and ensures the stable electricity resource.
Apart from providing electricity for outdoor shrimp raising farms, the system of biogas electricity is used for industrial shrimp raising farms in glass houses, a new model in Bac Lieu. The farm has completed the construction of a glass house area for raising shrimp in an area of 5,000m2 with a total productivity of over 30 tonnes/year.

The model of applying advanced technology to production not only brings high economic values but also decreases expenditure and protects the environment. With its effectiveness, the model is expanded in neighbouring provinces and it is being researched by cadres from Can Tho University.
