HA NOI (VNS) – Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong yesterday said Singapore would always be one of Viet Nam’s leading trade partners.


Trong was welcoming Singaporean Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, who was on a visit to Viet Nam.


Goh said he was ready to share his experiences and support Viet Nam in infrastructure development, particularly in transportation, personnel training, and seeking financial sources for development projects.



He added that he hoped Viet Nam would continue to develop, contributing to the development of.


Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said Viet Nam prioritised developing relations with Singapore and said both countries should increase exchanges and expand cooperation in trade, investment, education, and training.

Goh Chok Tong also met Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on the same day.


Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the visit was proof of Viet Nam and Singapore’s strategic partnership, while expressing pleasure at their mutual achievements. He said he hoped the two countries would maintain and develop relationships in all fields.


The Singaporean Emeritus Senior Minister said his visit aimed to realise the relationship between the two countries with practical projects. He suggested the two countries foster co-operation in banking so that Viet Nam could mobilise capital from international investment funds in Singapore to develop its infrastructure. The Singaporean National Bank could also help Viet Nam modernise its banking system to have easier access to international funds in Singapore.


For his part, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung suggested leaders of the two countries hold discussions to realize the offer, as well as to foster co-operation in aviation, education and tourism. – VNS
