In the morning of Sep 8, 2014, the VNMH Museum opened the special exhibition called “Land reform 1946-1957″ at 25 Tong Dan, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Le Nhu Tien – Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Culture, Education, Youth, and Children; Mr. Tran Chien Thang – Former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Le Anh Tho – Standing Deputy Secretary of MOCST’s Communist Party Unit; Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi – Chairman of Labor Union of MOCST; Mr. Hoang Duc Hau – Head of Anthropological Department, Dr. Do Van Tru – General Secretary of Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Association; and representatives, colleagues and press organizations.

In the past, Vietnam had 90% population of peasants. The land for agricultural cultivation for the peasants was a top issue of CPV. In fact, “the land for peasants” issue was defined in the political credo made by General Secretary Tran Phu in 1930, it said: “demolish the feudal class and redistribute the land for peasants”. The campaign was a goal of the people’s nationalist democratic revolution of Vietnam.

Therefore, right after the August Revolution 1945, the CPV planned to reform the land step by step. By 1953, the critical situation of the resistance against French colonists and to encourage the peasants to get into the revolution, the Central Party had launched a mass program on tax and interest reduction and started the land reformcampaign.

With purpose of providing public a real perspective on our land reform that was said to be an “earthshaking revolution”, the VNMH Museum displayed around 100 exhibits including objects and photographs that collected by VNMH Museum and reserve organizations and provincial museums. The showcase has painted a contradiction on the landownership and life of the landlords and the peasants in 60 years ago. It reflects the great achievement resulted from the campaign in sense of a new society and the changes in social classes, philosophy, labor power and relations of production. The exhibition also showcases materials related to the error corrections of the campaign.
