Tour bus plunges down ravine in Lao Cai killing 12

(VOV) – A bus accident in Lao Cai late on the evening of September 1 sent a bus veering off the road and plummeting down a ravine, leaving at least 12 people dead and 41 others injured.


The accident occurred at around 8pm in Tong Sanh village, Bat Sat district, Lao Cai province when the driver of a bus, owned by Sao Viet (Viet Star) Company transporting 53 passengers from Lai Chau to Hanoi, lost control causing it to fall to the bottom of a 200m-deep abyss.


Doctor Nguyen Ba Hue, Lao Cai General Hospital Director, said 12 passengers died while more than 40 others were injured, many seriously, and remain hospitalised.



Lao Cai has mobilized 10 ambulances and all doctors and staff of the two hospitals, Lao Cai and Bat Xat, to render emergency aid to victims.


Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has directed Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and leaders of the Ministry of Health to coordinate with local authorities to deal with the aftermath of the tragedy.


Phuc conveyed his deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and asked relevant authorities to conduct investigation to determine the cause and devise measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
