SINGAPORE (VNS)- Viet Nam and Singapore have agreed to strengthen co-operation in dealing with traditional and non-traditional security threats, with a particular focus on fighting organised international crime.

This agreement was reached during talks in Singapore on Saturday between Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang and Singaporean Deputy PM Teo Chee Hean, who is also Minister for Home Affairs and Co-ordinating Minister for National Security.

Quang congratulated the Singaporean Government and people on their achievements, adding that relations between the two countries in general and between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Singaporean Ministry for Home Affairs had become more effective in recent years.

Both sides reviewed the outcomes of several bilateral agreements, including an agreement on trans-boundary crime prevention and a memorandum of understanding on the exchange of annual visits at the deputy-ministerial level.

The two countries will also run joint capacity development measures for officials; train mobile police, firefighter and search-and-rescue forces; and safeguard the safety of trade, investments, and tourism. – VNS
