Kazakh President, Nursultan Nazarbayev has appointed Imangali Tasmagambetov, former Mayor of the Kazakh capital, Astana, as Defense Minister of Kazakhstan, while former Defence Minister, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov in turn becomes Mayor. Newly-appointed Defense Minister Imangali Tasmagambetov (Source: kaznation.com) Imangali Tasmagambetov, 57, is the current MayorofAstana,Kazakhstan. From December 2004 to April 2008 he was the Mayor of Almaty. Before that, from January 27, 2002 to June 11, 2003, he was thePrime Minister of Kazakhstan. He also served as the Secretary of State of Kazakhstan. He headed the government of the country, as well as the presidential administration. Earlier, Serik Akhmetov served as the Defense Minister of Kazakhstan. President Nursultan Nazarbayev confirmed that he accepted the resignation of Serik Akhmetov.
