Two men were arrested in Binh Duong Province after police said one of them had paid the other VND1 billion (US$47,200) to kill a competitor for purchasing land in the southern Vietnamese province last year.
Nguyen Thanh Nhan, 27, and Tran Duc Quy, 26, are under investigation for murder attempt, police said.
Nhan, an employee of a photo studio in the province’s Thu Dau Mot Town, had disputed with Nguyen Tan Phu over buying a land plot in the town.
Nhan hired Quy to kill Phu for VND1 billion.
Quy and his accomplices, including Nguyen Tien Dung, Nguyen Minh Duc, Pham Chi Thuc and Le Van Tien, found Phu in a street of Thu Dau Mot on January 6, 2013.
They shot Phu with a self-made gun on a street in the province’s Thu Dau Mot Town. Phu was seriously injured in the incident and was taken to hospital by local people.
The hitmen fled to their hometown in northern Vietnam.
Police are hunting for the other suspects in the case.
