Nine-month fruit and vegetable exports surpass last year’s target

(CPV) - Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export turnover in the first nine months of 2014 exceeded the previous year’s target of USD1.1 billion, valued at USD1.16 billion, according to the latest figures by the General Department of Customs.

During Jan-Sep 2014, China still took the lead among importers of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetables accounting for one third of the total, worth over USD321 million, a year-on-year rise of 37.7%. Major fruit and vegetables exported to the market were mango, litchi, longan, banana, blue dragon, coconut and pineapple.


Japan is the second largest market for Vietnam’s fruit and vegetables with an import turnover of USD56.2 million, a year-on-year rise of 20.8%. Followed by the Republic of Korea with USD43.6 million, but this market enjoyed the biggest growth of 97%. Exports ofcommodities to the US were valued at USD41.4 million, a year-on-year rise of 12%.


Recently, some big fruit and vegetable consumer markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US and Australia paid more attention to Vietnam’s supply source, said the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association.


With growth impetus since the beginning this year, the association forecasts Vietnam’s target of earning USD1.2 billion from fruit and vegetable exports can be reached./.
