The HCM City Tax Department kicked off a week-long programme called “Listening to the ideas of taxpayers 2014″ on Monday.
The latest tax policies and regulations will be discussed, and comments and questions from local citizens will be solicited.
As part of the programme, the agency will organise a direct dialogue with taxpayers at a conference to be held tomorrow.

VSA wants to prevent alloy steel fraud
The Viet Nam Steel Association has suggested to the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Finance and Science and Technology to intensify supervision of the import of alloy steel to prevent trade fraud.
The association cited the example of wire rods with boron imported from China. This is considered an alloy steel, which has a zero per cent tax rate.
However, the actual quality of the product is the same as construction steel, which is taxed at a higher rate.
As of end of August, 2.68 million tonnes of alloy steel had been imported to Viet Nam, an increase of 1.1 million tonnes over the same period last year. The imports were mostly from China.

City to open math-science-English syllabus
The HCM City People’s Committee has permitted the city’s Department of Education and Training to begin an integrated programme of mathematics, science and English based on the curricula of Viet Nam and UK public schools.
The programme will replace a pilot programme of teaching mathematics and science in English under the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
The new programme was compiled by the department and appraised by the science council under the Ministry of Education and Training.

Fire destroys more than 3,100ha of forest
Fires affected more than 3,100ha of forest in the first 10 months of the year nationwide, three times higher than the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In addition, 672ha of forest has been illegally cut down this year, up 14 per cent over the same period last year.
