Eyewitnesses said Tran Thi Ngoc Tuoi, 16 weeks pregnant, asked Nguyen Chi Linh, a 38-year-old worker at Linh Trung Export Processing Zone in the city’s Thu Duc District, for a ride home from the zone and Linh agreed to the request.

When they were traveling on a motorcyclist on a section of National Highway 1K that spans Thu Duc District’s Linh Xuan Ward, a truck hit them from behind.

After the crash, the 22-year-old woman was found lying in the middle of the road before being dragged about three meters by the big vehicle.

Tuoi was later taken to a hospital in Thu Duc District for emergency care. Doctors there said an open wound about 2cm in length was spotted on her abdomen.

There is no information on the condition of the fetus.

The woman also suffered from lung trauma and had a broken shoulder blade together with many scratches all over her body.

Tuoi has been admitted to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for further emergency treatment.

Police are investigating the accident.
