Ground was broken for construction in the northern mountainous province of Bac Can’s Cho Moi District on November 5 to make way for a VND 5 billion public health clinic.

The Ministry of Health, the Northwestern region Steering Committee and the provincial People’s Committee began the construction of the medical clinic in Cao Ky commune in Cho Moi District. Cao Ky Commune is a disadvantaged commune and its medical clinic is in poor repair. More than 250 families are very poor
At the ceremony, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said the clinic that is expected to put into operation in fall 2015, plays an important role in taking care of local residents’ health. It will provided much-needed health care to the inhabitants in 728 households, most of who are ethnic minority people.
Mrs. Tien said that the government will invest in more standard medical clinics in mountainous and distant regions by 2020 to meet the increased demands of residents there.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that medical facilities at communal and district levels must be invested in order to provide effective medical checks and treatment to local residents, particularly disadvantaged people in remote regions.
On the occasion, Mr. Phuc also asked the health sector to adopt more active policies to improve inhabitants’ initial health in disadvantaged areas. In addition, the sector should transfer senior medical workers in big hospitals to work in the special districts for months.
The well-equipped facility will cost more than VND5 billion (US$238,000), with VND3.5 billion provided by the EU as non-refundable aid and the remaining taken from the state fund of the People’s Committee
Mr. Phuc and Mrs Tien also gave gifts to residents in Cao Ky Commune and lauded doctors from the General Hospital in Thai Nguyen Province who are examining and treating needy residents and members of families prioritized under social policies.
