Speaking to the Daily, Ho Huy, chairman of Mai Linh Group, said his firm would slash taxi fares by VND500 per kilometer in HCMC, VND500-800 in Hanoi, VND1,800 in Danang and Hue, and VND2,000 in other provinces from November 14.
In HCMC, new taxi rates for compact Kia Morning cabs will be VND14,500 per kilometer, Toyota Vios cabs VND15,800, seven-seat Toyota Innova J VND16,500 and seven-seat Toyota Innova G VND17,700.
Ta Long Hy, deputy general director of Vinasun Corporation, said his firm had decided to cut taxi fares by VND500 per kilometer for all types of cab from November 14.
The HCMC Taxi Association on November 11 wrote to taxi operators asking them to revise down taxi charges as fuel prices have been cut nine times this year.
Earlier taxi companies in Danang City cut their charges by VND500-1,500 per kilometer.
In the year to date, gasoline prices have jumped five times with a combined increase of VND1,430 a liter and have edged down nine times by a total of VND4,250 per liter. Meanwhile, the diesel price has gone down 16 times with a combined decline of VND3,580 per liter. From October to date, diesel has marked down remarkably with a decrease of VND880 per liter on October 13, VND480 on October 23 and VND520 on November 7.
The Ministry of Finance last Thursday asked the Ministry of Transport to order transport enterprises to lower their charges due to fuel the price drops.
