The Overseas Vietnamese community in the Norwegian capital of Oslo has organized a charitable night to raise funds to help poor and disabled children in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Thanh Pha, Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Norway, suggested that in the coming time, overseas Vietnamese in Norway continued to participate in charitable activities as well as look toward the homeland.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Embassy in Norway, Minister Counselor Le Thanh Binh has welcomed the efforts and activities of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Norway in recent times. In August, the association was received the Certificate of Merit of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for achievements for community activities. The Minister Counselor believed charitable and community activities of the association would increasingly attract the response of many overseas Vietnamese in Norway to help poor and disable children in Vietnam.

On this occasion, a representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in Norway has introduced overseas Vietnamese in Norway to a website teaching the Vietnamese language, free of charge, by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training to support young Vietnamese people in the community to learn Vietnamese language, contributing to maintain and develop the Vietnamese culture in Norway and generations of Vietnamese people in the country could use the Vietnamese language to talk to each other, their relatives and friends in Vietnam.

The night collected about NOK40,000 (about USD5,700), which will be transferred to authorities to support poor and disable children in Vietnam.

In July 2014, the association also raised and transferred USD6,000 to the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese to support forces protecting Vietnam’s sea and islands./.
