VGP – The HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Department on December 8 organized a conference to review operations of financial sources for Methadone and ARV treatment.
Head of the Department Nguyen Hoang Long revealed that Viet Nam has recorded around 12,000-14,000 new HIV carriers a year. Currently, 224,220 HIV patients are being treated.
As of November 30, 23,160 drug adficts in 38 provinces and cities have been treated with Methadone, achieving 75.1% of the year’s plan and 28.6% of the plan set for 2015.
As of August 2014, 88,624 HIV carriers have been supported by ARV, accounting for 95.3% of the year’s plan.
Securing a stable funding for Methadone and ARV treatment poses a challenge to the country when foreign financial assistance, which accounted for 70 % of the sum, is shrinking and going to zero after 2017.
