PANO – Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army received the visiting delegation of the US Pacific Fleet, led by its Commander, Admiral Harry Harris on December 16th.
The Vietnamese General highly appreciated the cooperation of the two sides’ navies over the past time, especially practical support from the US Navy to raising the ability of the Vietnam People’s Navy especially in clearing bombs and mines left behind from the war.
He hoped that the two navies would continue heightening their relationship for the interests of each country and the regional peace and stability.
Admiral Harry Harris congratulated the VPA on its 70th founding anniversary and pledged to deepen the cooperation potential between the two navies during his term of office.
Both Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan and Admiral Harry Harris had a common view on that the disputes in the East Sea should be addressed via peaceful approaches on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
