The Japanese government Tuesday pledged to provide non-refundable aid of nearly US$650,000 for seven projects in southern provinces and the Central Highlands.
The agreements were signed at the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City by Consul General Nakajima Satoshi and senior officials of the involved localities, including Can Tho City and Dak Nong, Long An, An Giang and Kien Giang provinces.
Under the first agreement, the Japanese government will fund for a project with US$100,135 to build five classrooms at the Hoa My Primary School in Dak Nong Province’s Tuy Duc District.
The second agreement will grant $61,736 to build four bridges in Can Tho City’s Co Do District.
The third agreement was on the construction of six classrooms in Kien Giang Province’s Go Quao District, which costs $102,840.
The fourth agreement was on the construction of eight bridges in Can Tho’s Phong Dien and Thoi Lai districts, totaling $73,919.
The fifth agreement will grant $102,937 to buy medical equipment for the An Phu General Hospital in An Giang Province, which will enable doctors to treat difficult cases that they have had to transfer to higher level hospitals.
The six agreement was on the aid of $103,050 for An Minh General Hospital in Kien Gian Province to buy medical equipment and hospital beds.
The last agreement will grant $101,900 to Long An Province’s Vinh Hung Medical Center to buy medical equipment.
Earlier on November 12, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada signed agreements to grant non-refundable aid of more than $500,000 to five education and healthcare projects in Thai Nguyen, Hung Yen and Hai Duong provinces in the north.
The agreements fall under the Japanese government-funded Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP). Since 1995, the Consulate-General of Japan in HCMC has signed grant contracts for 140 projects in 26 southern and central provinces in Vietnam worth a total of more than US$11 million.
