The Ho Chi Minh City – Dong Nai expressway will open new connections between the two towns tomorrow, well ahead of schedule.
The entire road is expected to open to traffic in February.
A statement from the state-owned Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), said they would open two major connections between HCMC and the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway on Saturday, December 20, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
Vehicles bound from the city to the neighboring province can drive up the expressway from Nguyen Duy Trinh Street in District 2.
Those traveling in the opposite direction will be able to get onto the Phu My Bridge, which connects Districts 2 and 7, Tuoi Tre reported.
The connections will finish five months ahead of schedule, the company said.
The expressway, which crosses National Highway 51 to Vung Tau at Long Thanh District, will cut the distance from HCMC to Vung Tau from 120 to 95 kilometers, and cut bus travel time from 150 to 80 minutes.
Part of the expressway opened to traffic in January 2014, connecting National Highway 51 in Dong Nai Province and District 9 in HCMC.
Once finished, the expressway will also cross Mai Chi Tho Boulevard in HCMC’s District 2, an expressway from Dong Nai to Dalat, and an expressway between Dong Nai and Vung Tau.
VEC has announced its plan to finish the entire expressway by the Lunar New Year, which peaks February 19, ten months ahead of schedule.
The 55.7-kilometer expressway was backed by VND20.63 trillion (US$969.6 million) of aid from the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Asian Development Bank.
