Output of animal husbandry increases by 5 percent

There has been no disease on animal occurred in the country threatening the animal husbandry for current two years hence sector’s production is estimated to increase by 5 percent, said Vu Van Tam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development at a meeting to review the ­country’ s animal husbandry on December 2 in Hanoi.


Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Health, confirmed that the sector has had better sign, bringing profits to breeders.


While prices of animal meat leaped, the cost of animal feed maintained stable, he said.



Currently, the prices of pork are at VND47,000-52,000 per kilogram ( or US$2.19- 2.43 a kilogram) benefiting breeders.


The sector recovered the growth impetus equaling to 2007 and 2011. This year, the production grew steadily by 4-5 percent compared to 2013. Pig increased by 3 percent, poultry leaped by 5 percent, milk cow surged by 12 percent and animal feed grew by 6 percent.


However, Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam said that though vets have controlled the pandemic on animals, it is likely to re-occur; accordingly, the sector should help farmers to raise productivity, profits, and competitiveness capacity for export.


The sector’s current mission is to reduce the cost of animal feed; improve seedling and strengthen collaboration between production, distribution with consumption to ensure farmers’ profits as well as food safety.
