On December 10th, Russian President Vladimir Putin began a two-day official visit to India.

As scheduled, President Putin will have talks with Indian Prime Minister (PM), Narendra Modi and President, Pranab Kumar Mukherjee, and will meet with executives from the largest corporations on December 11th.


President Putin and PM Modi will also speak at the opening ceremony of the World Diamond Conference.


Ahead of his Indian visit, the Russian President said key subjects of talks in New Delhi would be expanding trade, cooperation in the military technical sphere, in the energy sector, including nuclear energy and high technologies.


Putin stressed that India was Russia’s traditional partner and noted the Indian leaders’ commitment to look for new and promising areas of cooperation with Russia.


Indian and Russian ties have been traditionally strong, dating back to the Cold War although in recent years, the relationship has been more tense.


The annual trade volume between Russia and India now stands at just USD10 billion, both countries are striving for an increase in turnover.


President Putin sees the potential for growing trade cooperation despite an unfavorable global economic situation, Russia and India are planning to double their USD10 billion trade turnover in 2015./.
