PANO – Kyle Bond, the Director of the Laboratory Program at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) in Vietnam has received an honorary commemorative award from the Vietnam Ministry of Health (MOH) for his extraordinary dedication and public service “for the health of the people.”Only foreigners who have made exceptional contributions to the health system in Vietnam are eligible for this distinguished award.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen praised Kyle’s commitment and achievements. “During his time in Vietnam, Kyle Bond has achieved more than just helping laboratories receive international accreditation. He has strengthened the laboratory system by also supporting the MOH in developing national laboratory policies and plans and increasing the knowledge and skills of laboratory staff at national institutes, universities, and hospitals. His support has truly made a long-term impact on the health system and the health of the Vietnamese people,” said the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health.
“It is exciting to see the number of internationally accredited laboratories jump to more than thirty in the past few years, of which U.S. CDC supported a third of those. I think this is because the MOH has made it a priority to improve the quality of all laboratory services in Vietnam and we, at U.S. CDC, applaud their efforts and support to focus on this,” said Kyle Bond.
With the support from the U.S President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief Program (PEPFAR), Kyle Bond worked closely with the Vietnam Administration for Medical Services and other partners who also attended the ceremony. After six years of improving the quality of laboratory services in Vietnam, Kyle Bond will be returning to the U.S. and is confident that Vietnam will continue to make forward strides in improving health care services for all.
