Vietnam welcomes the U.S. House of Representatives’ resolution that supports efforts to settle disputes in the East Vietnam Sea by peaceful measures based on international law, Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Le Hai Binh said on Friday.
Binh made the statement in reply to reporters’ questions on his country’s response to the U.S. Lower House’s approval for Resolution H.Res 714, which backs the building of a Code of Conduct (COC) in the sea area.
This is the first time that the Lower House has adopted such a resolution in relation to the East Vietnam Sea, the spokesman said.
The spokesman emphasized that Vietnam approves of all efforts to make active, effective, and constructive contributions to maintaining peace, stability, security, and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Vietnam Sea.
The resolution was passed on December 4 and sponsored by Congressmen Eni F.H Faleomavaega, Elliot Engel, Steve Chabot, Madeleine Bordallo, Ros Latihnen, Ani Bera, and Steve Stockman, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
