Vietnam, Laos foster special friendship ties

(VOV) – Vietnam always treasures and gives the highest priority to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.


Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement at meetings with Lao President and Party Secretary General, Choummaly Saynhasone and Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly, Pany Zathotou in Vientiane on December 10.


He briefed the host on talks with Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavath Lengsavad, when the two sides reviewed results in implementing the agreements reached at the 36th meeting of the inter-governmental committee and preparations for the upcoming 37th meeting, scheduled for early next year.

They compared notes on the limits and obstacles in some cooperative projects and fields and worked out solutions.


For their parts, the Lao President and NA Chairwoman showed their sincere thanks for Vietnam’s assistance for Laos in the past struggle and the current national development and construction process.


They appreciated Vietnam as one of their country’s leading investors and its commitment to increasing official development assistance (ODA) by 30% for Laos in 2015.


They agreed to boost the implementation of cooperative projects on transport and energy and improve the efficiency of investment cooperation and aid.

The Lao NA Chairwoman urged that the two legislatures will promote bilateral ties as well as cooperation at international parliament forums. She thanked Vietnam’s assistance to Laos’ successful organisation of the 35th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).


She proposed for Vietnam’s support to Lao agricultural development.


The same day, Vietnamese Deputy PM Phuc called on former Lao Prime Minister Sisavad Keonounphan and former Lao NA Chairman Saman Vinhaketh, and worked with the Association of Vietnamese Investors in Laos (AVIL) and the Vietnamese Embassy.
