According to the Hai Duong provincial Statistical Office, the consumer price index (CPI) in January has fallen by 0.17% compared to December 2014, while the CPI in December 2014 is considered the lowest in the past 10 years. It is mainly due to consecutive sharp declines in the prices of the commodity groups of heating gas, building materials, and petrol.
Food prices remain stable in January. Meanwhile, foodstuffs are more expensive than the previous month by 0.33% due to slight increases in the prices of some fresh products and the decline of supply sources of vegetables, tubers, and fruits, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, water morning glory, etc., because of the bitter and damaging cold weather.
The prices of beverages and tobacco have continued to rise by 0.47% compared to the previous month due to consumption demands in the wedding season and New Year occasion.
The traffic group’s CPI has dropped by 3.71% against the previous month under the impact of petrol price reductions and taxi fare decreases by 10 –12% depending on each taxi firm.
