Members of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee concluded their 34 th session on January 21, which focused on finalising preparations for the 132 nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132).
Addressing the event, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung urged the IPU-132 Organisation Committee to work closely with other relevant agencies to conclude all necessary works in a timely fashion.
The committee should actively coordinate with the IPU Secretariat to build an agenda and discuss event content, as it will be the largest-scale external relation activity of the country in 2015.
Through the event, Vietnam hopes to promote the image of a friendly and hospitable nation and people, he said, adding that the country is ready to befriend all nations for the sake of common peace, stability, and development.
According to the NA Committee for External Relations, almost all the necessary tasks for the event have been completed.
The 132 nd Assembly of the IPU is scheduled to take place from March 28 to April 1 in Hanoi under the theme “Sustainable Development Goals: Turning Words into Actions”.
Participants are expected to approve a Hanoi Declaration at the end of the event, which will be submitted to the World Conference of Parliament Speakers in August and the United Nations General Assembly in September of this year.
The event will take place in conjunction with meetings of the Women Parliamentarians of the IPU and the Young Parliamentarians of the IPU, which are expected to hold discussions about ways to enhance the engagement of women and youth in political activities.
They will also review the implementation of the Beijing Declaration on women’s rights over the past 20 years.
A ceremony to mark the 30 th anniversary of the founding of the Women Parliamentarians of the IPU will be organised.
Delegations to the events are scheduled to visit the UNESCO-recognised heritage sites of Ha Long in Quang Ninh province and Trang An tourism complex in Ninh Binh.-VNA
