The official made the statement at a reception held for visiting chairwoman of the Japanese Committee for Foreign Affairs and Defense, Katayama Satsuki, in Hanoi on Tuesday, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

At the event, Deputy PM Hai told his guest that Vietnam wishes to further expand comprehensive cooperation with Japan.

He also expressed his delight at the sound development of the relation between Vietnam and Japan in various fields, including politics, economy, science, culture, education, and defense.

He stressed that cooperation between the two countries is experiencing the best time since they established diplomatic ties in 1973.

In March 2014, the two nations lifted their relation to strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia, Deputy PM Hai said.

Currently, Japan is an important trade partner of Vietnam and its biggest provider of official development assistance (ODA), he said.

The Vietnamese official also thanked the Japanese government for its ODA provision over the past two decades for many significant projects in Vietnam, including the T2 terminal at Noi Bai International Airport and Nhat Tan Bridge in Hanoi.

Satsuki affirmed that Japan will continue offering ODA for Vietnam’s sustainable development, and added that the East Asian country always supports the Southeast Asian nation’s implementation of economic cooperation agreements, which include infrastructure and energy projects.

She also expressed her hope that the Vietnamese government will provide help for Japanese investors in doing business in Vietnam in various fields, including agriculture, infrastructure development, support industries, and human resources training.
