The head of Vietnam Railway Authority, the state agency in charge of railway management in Vietnam, was found dead in his office on Thursday afternoon.

Police investigators are seen at the agency’s office in Hoan Kiem Dist., Hanoi. However, neither the police nor the transport ministry, to which the VRA reports, have made any statement about the death of Nguyen Huu Thang.

According to VRA employees, Thang came to work as usual in the morning and had a meeting with leaders of the transport ministry in the afternoon.

They found Thang dead in his office late in the afternoon.

News website VnExpress quoted another railway official as saying that he was “stunned” by Thang’s sudden death.

In April of last year, Thang was suspended for 15 days for “wrong and irresponsible comments” that he made about broad public criticism following media reports of problems in a long-stalled elevated railway project in Hanoi.
