Thousands of locals in the central Da Nang City attended the burial ceremony for Vietnam’s corruption fighter Nguyen Ba Thanh, held at noon today in the central Da Nang City and he will lay to rest in his family cemetery.
He was taken out of his family at 11:00am and the burial service started at 12:45pm today at the cemetery in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang.
Over 2,000 normal people in Da Nang flocked to his private house and the cemetery to see him off for the last time.
Huynh Thi Ky, 60, a local in Lien Chieu District said she was urged to pay a visit to the former leader of the city although her family has not yet finished preparing for the lunar New Year (Tet) holidays.
The former head of the Vietnamese Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, Nguyen Ba Thanh, died at 1:10 pm Friday at 62 after over six months battling myelodysplastic syndrome which is related to the ineffective production of blood cells.
Thanh came back to Vietnam on January 9 for being treated by both western and traditional Vietnamese medicines after months of treatment in the U.S.
His health condition was in very bad condition and doctors performed the second blood purification on him to eliminate toxins from his blood.
In mid-August, Thanh was transferred from Singapore to a private hospital in the U.S. for treatment.
Before Thanh returned to Vietnam, Internet-spread rumor had been spread that he was poisoned but the health care commission refuted the rumor.
Thanh, a Da Nang native, was the secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee from 2003 to late 2012, when he came to Hanoi to take office as the head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs.
Thanh was also deputy head of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, led by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
