PANO – General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence, paid a working visit to the Border Guards High Command on February 10th.
Last year, border guards strictly maintained the watch and combat readiness, firmly protected the national sovereignty, and ensured social order in border areas.
They sent more than 300 troops to needy mountainous communes across the country to help them strengthen Party organizations and develop socio-economy.
Particularly, the Border Guards High Command has launched a program to present 24,000 cows to poor households in the Northern and Northwestern regions of Vietnam.
Besides, they actively stepped up the fight against drug trafficking and crimes, dealing with over 11,000 cases and seizing more than 20,000 suspects.
Having praised the border guards’ achievements in the last year, General Phung Quang Thanh requested them to continue being the key force in firmly defending the territorial integrity and security in border areas, and carrying out crime prevention, search and rescue, public relations and administrative reforms.
In addition, the Defence Minister held that they should make prompt recommendations to the Government and the Ministry of National Defence to effectivelyaddress any situations occurred on shared borderline and at sea, and prepare for the Party congresses at all levels towards the 12th National Party Congress.
